I am organising a little give away for here on the blog.
I seem to have an extra copy of some of my vintage Little Golden Books and vintage doll clothes patterns and a couple of embroidered doileys that I don't really need.
I'll sort through them properly in the next couple of days but if you would like to go in the draw to win this little parcel of vintage goodness please leave a comment here.
I will draw a winner on Tuesday 26th July.

ReplyDeleteYour posts bring back lovely memories of my own childhood!
ReplyDeleteDue to my father's job, we moved around a lot, and shipping household goods was expensive so my folks didn't let me save many of my things. About a week and a half ago, you posted pictures of several of the old Little Golden Books. Doctor Dan, The Bandage Man was one of my favorites! I was able to find a copy of it for my kids, when they were small. The Happy Family was also a favorite, and I was tickled to see that it was also included in your post. Now I'm excited that it is included in your give-away! Having a growing brood of grandchildren, I enjoy reading my old favorites to them.
Of course, the dolly patterns would motivate me to make some clothes, too. Dolls have always been my other love (besides books). When I was small, my Godmother, who had sons and nephews, made the most beautiful doll clothes for me! Whenever she'd visit us (or I'd visit her) she'd tell me to bring over to her the dolls who needed clothes. She'd ask me their name, write that down, ask me what type of clothes they needed (she could make ANYTHING!), then measure them with her tape measure. The next time I saw her, she'd bring the clothes - either completed or, if needed, ready for a final fitting. She would make everything - from a bathing suit to a knit sweater. My favorite dolls were the baby doll types, but one year she gave me a teen-aged doll named Tressie. You could push a button on her tummy and lengthen her hair. The teen-aged doll was never my favorite, but perhaps it was hers because she made extra special clothing for Tressie. My goodness, she even made a satin evening gown with a dress coat that had a satin lining matching the evening gown! She sewed all of the clothes by hand, and I imagine the stitching for the baby dolls was hard enough, but for that tiny Tressie, they were minuscule! Fortunately, my parents did let me save one (large) suitcase of those doll clothes. As soon as my granddaughter is a little bit older, I plan to pass them along to her (hoping she will love them as much as I have)!
Thank you for sharing part of your life with us. I love to read your posts!
So many memories in Little Golden Books :) Thank you.

ReplyDeleteI would really love to win this give away, Vintage Golden Books are just the best, my 5yo would enjoy those. I would like to re-kindle my sewing skills and I think dolls clothes would be the perfect place to start. Love your blog, I read it daily. Have you been to the Convict Cemetery in Rose Lane? I visited it for the first time last week, even though I lived in Glen Dhu for a while when I was a child and attended school there, I never knew it was there before.
ReplyDeleteCheers
