Thrifty cook book give away

18 Feb 2010

THE GIVE AWAY IS NOW CLOSED

These are the give away books.

After a series of strange events I came to have two copies of each of these cookbooks having only actually bought one, as a Christmas present for for Louis.

Now I don't need extra copies so I thought I would have a give away on the blog.
There will be two winners, winning one book each so make sure you say which book would suit your circumstances best.

Just leave a comment on this post.

The orange book is for a single person though it would be easy to double the portions to feed a couple.
The green book is for a family of four but again it would be easy to upsize the recipes.
The books are Australian and as well as giving two weeks worth of thrifty menus also give lots of handy shopping and cooking tips.

I haven't actually used these books though I do have an old copies of  earlier books by the same author, one that I bought a couple of years ago, the yellow book, and the Christmas one that I bought nearly 20 years ago.

  1. I had the spiral bound one that you show in the picture on the left, but mine had an orange cover, so I'm not sure what year it was published. I thought they were brilliant books but mine went walkabout when I loaned it to a 'struggling' friend who ended up selling it at a garage sale on me! I was not aware they were published again so I shall have to look out for them if I'm not lucky enough to win one. I have a family so the green book would be ideal for me. Fingers crossed.

  2. Great idea Jenny. Since we are empty nesters the single book would probably be more appropriate for us. I also have a thrifty tip for today....Went to PFD (Mario's wholesale) near Bunnings today and bought 2kg of bicarb soda for $4.70 and we all know how many jobs bicarb does in the house! Vinegar is also available in bulk too.

I dont often enter blog givaways, but these books look good. I dont mind which one - as it's just "Darbe and Joan" I'd either double or halve the recipe's. Thanks.
    Cheers,

  11. Hi Jenny,
I love to read your blog. I would love to win a book, there is only two of us so the single one would be great, I don't mind though, if I'm lucky enough to win I would be grateful for either.

  20. Thank you for the opportunity, Jenny! I'd be delighted to win - especially the family version.

I was thinking of you the other day - I was sick as can be but happy to be watching "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" which you had mentioned, and I had checked it out at our local library.

  22. I must have had an earlier version of the yellow book because it was called Feed your Family for $50 a Week. I got lots of tips from it on cutting down, but the boys drew the line at fried leftover porridge! I loved the 'waste nothing' attitude and now that the boys have left home I'd be interested in the orange book.

  23. Hi Jenny-

Thanks for your generosity in doing a give-away. I didn't even know books like this existed and with the way my two boys (three counting the husband)eat, I could really use a book like the green one. Especially if the meals are healthy. I can't eat processed foods and they are so cheap here in the states and the healthy non-preservative organic food is so expensisve!
    Thanks so much!
